What is the subcision?
The term subcision means subcutaneous surgery without incisions. The main indications are for the treatment of depressed scars (in particular acne scars) and the fibrous depressions from cellulite in its most advanced stages. The freeing of the subcutaneous fibrous bands allows the skin to smooth out again, reducing the depressed scars, or, in the case of cellulite, the “orange peel” appearance of the skin. The way it works is based on the dissection of the fibrous septa of the superficial muscle-aponeurotic system, on the formation of new connective tissue starting from the hematoma formed by this, and on the redistribution of the forces of traction and tension on the tissue.
The operation is carried out on an outpatient basis, after using a local anaesthetic on the area to be treated, and it lasts a few minutes. The procedure is carried out with the use of a special needle (NoKor needle) or with a specific instrument (wire scalpel), that is inserted subcutaneously into the area to be treated with the purpose of causing a breakage of the subcutaneous fibrous bands. No particular preparation of the skin is necessary, but it is useful, in the days before the treatment, to take aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicine or Vitamin E (these medicines can increase the bleeding), and to take the antibiotic medication prescribed, when required.
How much improvement is obtained depends on the situation to be treated, but, as a rule, above all in the treatment of fibrous cellulite, several treatments may be necessary before reaching a sufficient degree of correction. After the operation it is useful to wear a compression girdle or graduated compression stockings for 20-30 days. In 100% of the cases there will be bruising in the areas treated. The bruises will disappear within 30-40 days. The results will be assessed once the bruises have been reabsorbed and, in any case, after 30-45 days. It is also essential not to expose oneself to the sun or to UV rays for at least 6 weeks after the operation. A second operation can be carried out two months after the first one. The result is permanent.
