In Italy, as in the rest of the world, there is no graduate degree in Medicine and Surgery, and is not required by law to be specialists surgeons to perform surgeries. But it is strongly recommended to check to rely on a specialist in Plastic Surgery (who, after graduating in medicine, he attended for five years a Postgraduate School University in Plastic Surgery) or has developed a proven equivalence and certified by an experience of at least five years in a facility authorized for Plastic Surgery (necessary to be admitted to Plastic Surgery scientific societies). For Aesthetic Medicine treatments it is recommended to have achieved specific training in University Masters or in the dedicated four-year schools. The lists of members are public and can be found on sites of scientific societies.

The treatments of aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery should be performed in an officially authorized health facility.

It is the patient's right to obtain information on the materials used, such as implants or fillers, and make sure they are of proven quality, produced by recognized and certified companies. Each physician must explain to patients every product we use and deliver an identification label of the product.

In other words, do not require a specific procedure, but, on the contrary, expose the problem and evaluated the proposed solutions, as these can often be more than one. Also, do not be overly influenced by certain solutions, often miraculous found online or heard on TV.

Every person is different, and directions to a specific procedure may vary, but the specialist only able to do a thorough evaluation.

Medicine and cosmetic surgery are not covered by the Health Service and often not even by health insurance. An excessively low price is often a sign of inadequate preparation and experience of the person who offers, use of low quality materials, safety standards reduced or absent. Also beware of those who advertises a free visit. The first visit is often the moment of greatest importance in the doctor-patient relationship: it takes time, experience and knowledge.

Respect of the recommendations careful before, during, and after a procedure has often great importance on the result and can prevent many of the possible side effects. You must read the consent informatoe clarify any concerns with your doctor.

All information relating to your medical history are important and should be discussed with the specialist. Some situations in which apparently given little importance may be decisive, such as allergies or taking medications or supplements. Doubt of who does not make you an accurate medical history.
