What is the vascular targeting laser?
These types of lasers (KTP 532, ND:Yag 1064) emit laser radiation with a wavelength which is selectively absorbed by the haemoglobin, the molecule which gives blood its red colouring within the blood vessels and which transports oxygen. Nowadays we have a wide number of chosen technologies at our disposal, within the context of the family of vascular lasers, so that we can exploit the specific properties of the single wavelengths and single technologies, achieving the best results on almost all types of vascular malformations, either acquired or congenital. In addition it is also possible today to combine the properties of different vascular lasers to refine the results of the treatment.
Treatment with vascular targeting laser
With these machines we can treat congenital vascular malformations, like angiomas (so-called “birthmarks”, which however often tend to fade spontaneously), or the acquired forms, such as telangiectasis (visible dilations of the blood vessels of a small entity) on the face, and are typical on the central strip of the face, the wings of the nose and the cheeks, which configure couperose, and which is very characteristic in lighter skins when they are exposed to strong environmental stress (sun, cold).
Star-shaped angiomas can also be treated (or spider angiomas), which often appear suddenly in adults and children, or cherry angiomas (small red or purple growths the size of a dot or larger and round in shape that usually appear mainly on the trunk). A vascular abnormality which is at the same time pigmental and which is susceptible to treatment with laser and pulsed light is poikiloderma (a group of brownish-red marks on the side part of the neck and on the top of the décolleté, which is typical of sun damage in sensitive skins.).
No preparation is needed for the treatment, other than the usual requirement of the skin not being sun-tanned, and it is rapid and practically painless. After the session there may remain a few small scabs and a little swelling, but usually after a few days there is no sign at all of the treatment.
